چکیده

We present an e cient framework for the detection and tracking of human faces with an active camera. The Bhattacharyya coe cient is employed as a similarity measure between the color distribution of the face model and face candidates. The proper derivation of these distributions allows the use of the spatial gradient of the Bhattacharyya coe cient to guide a fast search for the best face candidate. The optimization, which is based on mean shift analysis, requires only a few iterations to converge. Scale changes of the tracked face are handled by exploiting the scale invariance of the similarity measure and the luminance gradient computed on the border of the hypothesized face region. The detection and tracking modules are almost identical, the difference being that the detection involves mean shift optimization with multiple initializations. Our dual-mode implementation of the camera controller determines the pan, tilt, and zoom camera to switch between smooth pursuit and saccadic movements, as a function of the target presence in the fovea region. The resulting system runs in real-time on a standard PC, being robust to partial occlusion, clutter, face scale variations, rotations in depth, and fast changes in subject/camera position.

Real-Time Multi-Face Recognition and Tracking Techniques Used for the Interaction between Humans and Robots

The technology of biometric recognition systems for personal identification commonly manipulate the input data acquired from irises, voiceprints, fingerprints, signatures, human faces, and so on. The recognition of irises, voiceprints, fingerprints, and signatures belongs to the passive methods that require the camera with a high resolution or capture people‘s biometric information at a short r...

ردیابی و شناسایی مجدد افراد در شبکه ای از دوربین ها با دید مجزا بر مبنای سیستم فازی در محیط های بسته

The selection of a suitable feature is an important and indispensible issue in real-time surveillance systems employing a network of cameras to achieve rapid and accurate results. We have used the concept of color image histograms, as a simple but efficient method, to track people in different cameras in this research. Employing the image histogram for tracking may not be robust as it is sensit...

Online multiple people tracking-by-detection in crowded scenes

Multiple people detection and tracking is a challenging task in real-world crowded scenes. In this paper, we have presented an online multiple people tracking-by-detection approach with a single camera. We have detected objects with deformable part models and a visual background extractor. In the tracking phase we have used a combination of support vector machine (SVM) person-specific classifie...

A multi-modal system for tracking and analyzing faces on a mobile robot

This paper describes a user detection system which employs a saliency system working on an omnidirectional camera delivering a rough and fast estimate of the position of a potential user. It consists of a vision (skin color) and a sonar based component, which are combined to make the estimate more reliable. To make the skin color detection robust under varying illumination conditions, it is sup...
